I am at present 2nd year PhD Researcher at the Centre d'Etudes de la Vie Politique. I am associated to three different projects whose aim is to study the Belgian democractic deficit: Reforming Representative Democracy (FNRS), Cure or Curse (FNRS) and Representation and Democratic Resentment (EoS-FNRS). Before joining CEVIPOL, I worked as research assistant for the EU-HORIZON 2020 project TransSol in Sciences Po Paris. Also, I was research assistant for the European-funded project Pathways to Power and to Prof. Sigman at the Naval Postgraduate Institute, where I investigated representation and democracy in European and African contexts. I  also collaborated with the Electoral Compass for the 2017 French elections (Sciences Po, Paris).  Earlier, I was project manager within Academics Stand Against Poverty and external consultant for Lawyers Without Borders.

Présentation des recherches

The growing discontent of citizens, electoral shifts, numerous efforts of politicians and institutions to involve citizens prove that the Belgian sui-generis democracy is facing a democratic deficit. I participate to this academic debate, in an effort to study citizens’ opinion on representative and democratic actors.

Using mixed methods, which include surveys, participant observation and text analysis I observe what Belgian citizens express about institutions, democracy and politicians in their country

There are several objectives for my research project. Firstly, to identify groups of people within the citizenry that share positive and negative judgements. Secondly, to identify patterns of groups and who they refer to. Which is related to my third objective, to understand who and why is being the object of positive and negative comments.
