Rikki Dean is Postdoctoral Fellow in the Democratic Innovations Research Unit at Goethe University Frankfurt and Johanna Quandt Young Academy Fellow. His current research is focused on: developing a systemic conception of democracy; evaluating participatory governance projects; understanding the opportunities for democratic innovation represented by new online technologies; and analysing preferences for democratic governance. Dr Dean holds a PhD and an MSc from the London School of Economics, where his research focused on participatory innovations in the social policy process. His PhD Thesis, Democratising Bureaucracy, received the LSE’s Richard Titmuss Prize for Outstanding Scholarship. Previously, he taught social policy at the London School of Economics and Democratic Innovations at the University of Westminster. He has worked on research projects for LSE, Oxford University, University of Manchester, University of Birmingham and University of Westminster. In 2015 he was a Visiting Democracy Fellow at Harvard University’s Ash Center for Democratic Innovation and Governance.

Rikki Dean will be working on Jean-Benoit Pilet's ERC project. They will collaborate on citizens' preferences for how democracy should be organised. Rikki Dean has worked on citizens' preferences for a more participatory and deliberative democracy.
